Lavi officially extended

Here's the official news that I was talking about yesterday.

Peter Laviolette, Kevin McCarthy and Jeff Daniels have all been given five-year extensions. McCarthy will be promoted to the role of "associate head coach", while Jeff Daniels will remain assistant coach.

What, exactly, is special about "associate head coach"? But especially, and as I pondered in my own blog, how did McCarthy land such a "prestigious" position? I don't know how many remember, but McC was/is the dude in charge of the Canes' power play. And even during the obviously WONDERFUL past season, with the exception of a few games here and there, the power play was easily the Canes' most glaring weakness, at least in my (not-so) humble opinion.

Perhaps the new position will make Kevs work a little harder on that aspect of the team's play.
