Wings slain by Oilers

The Mighty Detroit Red Wings have just fallen 4 games to 2 to the Edmonton Oilers.

This is quite a stunning occurrence, and Chris from Covered In Oil can hardly contain himself. Can you blame him?

Wow! Out West, the #1 AND the #2 seed have been ousted. Oh. And Nashville(4), too. This means somebody will be backing their way into home ice in the second round. Calgary (3) should be able to finish off the Ducks (6), so they will be the top seed in the second round, and will "host" the Oil. San Jose, although initially a five seed, will play "host" to the Avs.

Back East, meanwhile, there don't look to be any upsets on the horizon.

I'm not going to harp on this, but it just goes to show you that the President's Trophy doesn't mean shit. I'm sure that if the Wings had to chose between the President's Trophy and a birth in the second round, they'd opt for the playoffs.

Dave, I'll go ahead and speak for the prozac-induced Wing nation today and say you're right. We'd take that 2nd round berth over the Pres. Trophy. Good luck tonite.
