The Sabres went bankrupt because their owners were criminals who drove their company (Adelphia) and themselves into bankruptcy. It hurt the franchise but was certainly not because of the franchise. Think of it as Buffalo's own mini-Enron. It had nothing to do with an inability to handle money on the part of Regier, et al. They have a different owner now and are in absolutely no danger of going bankrupt again.

Certainly they have other problems but that isn't one of them.

It's funny that, as doom-and-gloom as Sabres fans usually are during the off-season, the fans of other teams seem to think this is a much bigger disaster than we do (for the most part).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14559994.post-1152496166243611422006-07-09T21:49:00.000-04:002006-07-09T21:49:00.000-04:00first off, Lindy ruf shouldnt hae been coach of th...first off, Lindy ruf shouldnt hae been coach of the year. Quite frankly I'm getting tired of it being blogged about and written about all over the internet as if to say we're screwed. I think it's safe to say, as a Sabres fan myself, that we've shown our ability to overcome adversity in the past. It always seems to go unmentioned that Lindy Ruff was coach of the year to a team that no one thought would do ANYTHING. We made it to the Eastern Conference Finals with a team that has repeatedly been referred to as one witout any "standout", "big-name" players. I have a little more confidence in the organization than to think they are going to just sit back and let us go from a team that produced one of our best seasons in years to one that isn't going to produce anything at all because of money. If anyone thinks otherwise, then I'd be happy if they talked about it next season when we indeed "go to crap" because of this. We've never had a large bank to pull from, and were almost bankrupt not just a few years ago if anyone remembers. I think we can handle our money situation. Besides the fact that with whatever we do end up with, Lindy has taken unknowns and made them series clinchers. I agree... there are guys we need to hang on to, and I'm sure we'll find a way to do that. Sorry David, but from my last comment, I didn't need a ten page explanation of what salary arbitration means for our team. I would just like for everyone to realize that they aren't a part of the Sabres organization, have NO idea what's going on behind closed doors, and should move on.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14559994.post-1152492851657872932006-07-09T20:54:00.000-04:002006-07-09T20:54:00.000-04:00I think you're absolutely correct. It all depends on how many actually make it to arbitration and what kind of home town discounts are available.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04316428349560770186noreply@blogger.com
